Objective

The main purpose of holding this write-shop is to bring the DRC project team together to prepare manuscripts for publication along the following themes:

  • A review of cavy production in eastern DR Congo: Challenges and opportunities [review of available knowledge before the project started]
  • Current situation of cavy culture in Sud-Kivu, DRC [based on baseline]
  • Cavy value chain and markets in Sud-Kivu, eastern DRC [from assessments]
  • Genetic diversity of cavy and inbreeding in Sud-Kivu, eastern DRC [from molecular data]
  • Characterization of feeds and feeding in Sud-Kivu, eastern DRC [based on FEAST]
  • Evaluation of forages in Sud-Kivu, eastern DRC [based on demonstration plots, incl. herbage assessment and participatory variety selection (PVS)]

The writeshop will include

  • Reviewing existing data from the cavy project and ensure proper data entry (if there were issues, they should have been resolved jointly and well documented)
  • Identify key (exiting) messages from the data collected and analyzed
  • Learn about scientific publication – why, how, where?
  • Produce draft publications on cross-site similarities and differences, constraints and opportunities, summary of potential interventions among others
  • Produce feedback messages for the Innovation Platforms and/or identify additional research needs

Every day, we will have results from one thematic area presented and there will be short introductions into the main parts of scientific publication. Work mode will be mostly in groups by thematic areas, followed by brief plenary sessions every day for exchange of lessons learnt. The overall language is English for scientific publication.

People's names in many countries do not follow the western way of First name and Family name. In order to be recognizable as the same author in different publications, it is now possible to create your own author's identity! Make sure that other researchers will identify all your publications by registering under one single author's identity! To create a unique author identity, you can register at ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher and, through integration in key research workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized.
